Are the Stocks Really Mine if I Buy them through eToro?

When investing your money through whatever platform, it’s really important to know if you actually own the stocks you buy. If you’re wondering if you’re really buying real stocks through eToro, we have the answers.

Am I buying real stocks through eToro? 🤔

buying real stocks on eToro

Yes! eToro offers both investing in real stocks and contracts for difference(CFDs). Which one will be offered to you, will completely depend on what country you’re in.

If you already have an eToro account and it says on the trade screen that you’re only buying CFDs, you can try contacting eToro’s customer support and ask if you’re eligible for buying and investing in real stocks; as sometimes accounts are set to CFDs by default.

If you’re able to buy and invest in real stocks on eToro, the stocks are purchased and held in your name. While eToro is holding the stocks for you, they will be under your name. This also applies to fractional shares, as you can buy fractions of stocks as low as $50 even if the stock is priced at upwards of $100.

If you don’t have an eToro account yet, you can easily create an account in just a few minutes here:

Disclaimer: 75% of retail CFD accounts lose money. Trade with caution.

To reach eToro’s customer support:

  1. Login to your eToro account. You can make an account here if you don’t have one yet.
  2. Click on the Help tab on the left sidebar.
  3. Scroll down a bit, and click on the Contact Support link.

Simply ask them if your account is eligible for trading real stocks, and they’ll mostly respond really quickly. If they say yes, just ask them to enable buying real stocks on your account.

Final Notes ✨

Take note that while you can buy and invest in real stocks on eToro, this will only apply when buying non-leveraged positions on eToro. If you’re making leveraged trades, the trades will be made through CFDs.
