Token airdrops are one of the most anticipated cryptocurrency-related events since Uniswap pioneered the airdrop model of giving active protocol users the token airdrops, rather than selling them through an ICO or IDO.
With no signs of airdrops on Ethereum’s OpenSea, the community set their eyes on Solana’s Magic Eden.
Does it have a token? 🤔
No, Magic Eden doesn’t have a token — but, they had conducted an airdrop on February 21-23.
If you used Magic Eden and have your email + Discord account connected to your Magic Eden account before September 17, 2021, and December 19, 2021, you should’ve received an airdrop.
While it was quite weird to require users to have an email and Discord account connected to be eligible for the airdrop, the Magic Eden team justified this by saying that this ‘bizarre’ requirement was to prevent airdrop farmers from Sybil Attacking the platform as to get as many of the airdrops as possible.
Compared to most airdrops on Ethereum, there was no claiming needed on the Magic Eden airdrop because of the very cheap fees on Solana. The airdrops were directly sent to the communities’ wallets!
The MagicDAO Airdrop 🪂
Instead of releasing a token as most platforms and protocols do, Magic Eden went a different route and released a cool NFT called “Magic Ticket” instead, which would act as a “ticket” to the DAO’s governance.
The Magic Tickets come in 3 tiers — “Normie“, “Degen“, and “OG“. Which one you will receive will totally depend on when your earliest NFT purchase on Magic Eden purchase was.
From Magic Eden’s blog post:
- OGs – people who first transacted on ME from Sep 17 – Oct 17
- Degens – people who first transacted on ME between Oct 18 – Dec 18
- Normies – people who first transacted on ME Dec 19 onwards
Didn’t get the airdrop? 😐
If you didn’t get the airdrop yet you want to participate in the MagicDAO, fortunately, you can freely purchase Magic Tickets on Magic Eden here.
